HOLCOMB FOUND GUILTY OF THEFT OF PROPERTY AND ALTERING A SERIAL NUMBER

Jun 6, 2025

On October 24, 2023, Trooper Ridge Long made a traffic stop and the driver was identified as Thomas Odell Holcomb. Trooper Long ran the Public VIN (PVIN) on the truck Holcomb was driving and it came back to a 1999 Chevrolet. Trooper Long knew the truck was newer than 1999 and it had been painted with truck bed liner leading him to believe the PVIN had been altered. Holcomb stated that he had built the truck using several different vehicles. Trooper Long contacted Tennessee Highway Patrol Criminal Investigation Division Sergeant Jeff Brown to assist him with this investigation. Sergeant Brown arrived on the scene and upon inspecting the frame of the truck verified that the frame VIN and the PVIN were not a match. They then discovered that the frame VIN had been reported stolen in August if 2016 from Wilson County Motors in Lebanon, TN.

Holcomb represented himself in this case and chose to take the case to trial. This case was tried by Assistant District attorney Samantha Key Williams and Javin Cripps where Holcomb was found guilty of Theft of Property and Altering a serial number. Holcomb is set to be sentenced August 11, 2025.
