On Christmas Eve, December 24^th, 2022, Walter Mason was found dead in his cell. A correctional officer was serving breakfast when one of the inmates advised him to check the cell of Walter Mason and James Person. Person was standing in the doorway and simply advised the officer that “he had to go” and then Person moved aside. That is when the officer discovered Mason’s body and called for assistance. Person admitted that he was responsible for killing Mason because he could not be roommates with him. Person was found guilty at trial of first degree murder and he was sentenced to serve a life sentence.
