The District Attorney General\u2019s Office of the 21st Judicial District offers a dynamic internship program for students who demonstrate initiative, strong collaboration skills, and a genuine interest in the criminal justice system. This program provides a unique opportunity for interns to gain hands-on experience prosecuting criminal cases and actively participating in the pursuit of justice.<\/p>\n

High school and college interns may observe courtroom proceedings, assist in administrative tasks, and support attorneys and staff in day-to-day operations. Law students in the early stages of their education will be introduced to the foundational responsibilities of a prosecutor\u2019s office. Initial assignments are designed to build legal research and writing skills, develop familiarity with case procedures, and provide exposure to courtroom practice. Law students who have completed at least half of their legal coursework are eligible to apply for a limited license to practice law, allowing them to appear in court under the supervision of a licensed prosecutor. My internship at the Williamson County District Attorney’s Office was truly a life-changing experience. It provided me with countless invaluable hands-on opportunities. I was able to argue a motion to suppress, conduct numerous preliminary hearings, and even participate in a full trial. I’m grateful for the experience and for the chance to learn criminal law and procedure in such a distinguished office.<\/p>\n

I started with our office as an intern, and from the very beginning, I knew this is where I wanted to work. Now, as an Assistant District Attorney, I get the opportunity to come to work every day and do what\u2019s right, uphold the law, and make our community a better place.<\/p>\n

Interning at the District Attorney\u2019s Office for the 21st Judicial District was the most formative experience of my legal education. Through the mentorship of the accomplished prosecutors, my interest in criminal law developed into a genuine passion, as I received invaluable guidance pertaining to trial preparation, legal writing, and courtroom advocacy. The internship afforded me a comprehensive understanding of the criminal justice system by providing exposure to the vital roles of investigators, correctional staff, probation officers, and others whose contributions are essential to the pursuit of justice.<\/p>\n

Interning for the Williamson County Prosecutor’s Office is a unique, hands on opportunity to do meaningful work both in and outside of the court room, in an environment with skilled and zealous advocates. I tried multiple cases as first chair, under the supervision of a fully licensed prosecutor, before I began my 3L year. I knew when I graduated, I wanted to be inside the courtroom, and that was based on what I had actually been afforded the opportunity to do. Twelve years removed from my internship, and still practicing law in court rooms every day, I cannot put into words how valuable my experience was to both my personal and professional development and growth. If you think you want to be an advocate in the courtroom, challenge yourself and pursue this opportunity. You won\u2019t regret it.<\/p>\n

My internship with the Williamson County District Attorney\u2019s Office gave me the opportunity to learn about the practice of law in the real world. I got the chance to see the intersection of public safety and the rights of the accused through the eyes of the people tasked with protecting both. It was an invaluable experience which helped me to solidify my choice to pursue a career in criminal law<\/p>\n

High school students can gain real-world experience in the criminal justice system through this administrative internship. Interns assist legal staff with tasks like scanning documents and organizing case files. The program runs during the Fall and Spring semesters.<\/p>\n
